Last weekend, I scouted several locations across Bellevue, Washington in preparation for an outdoor cherry blossom family session with Heena and her sweet family of three.
One of the places I visited was Bellevue Downtown Park. Because I was scouting on a Saturday – and it turned out to be the first sunny day we’d had in a while – the park was absolutely packed!

Part of my careful scouting process involves making note of where the sun will be at the time of our shoot, so I captured a few screenshots from my augmented reality app, which maps out its expected position. With this prep step, I know where to place families and where to place my portable lights on session day.
Our session took place on a cloudy Wednesday evening, which gave us ideal conditions for family photos at Downtown Bellevue Park: soft, diffuse light and fewer crowds. I arrived early to set up my lighting, calibrate my camera, and get familiar with the space before the family arrived so the session could feel calm from the start.
Because Heena’s two-year-old daughter and I had not met before, I gave her time to explore her surroundings and warm up naturally. With young children, I never want to rush connection or force poses too quickly. This gentle start helps little ones feel comfortable and often leads to more natural family photographs and authentic candid moments.

Mom had the sweetest idea to bring bubbles to our family session, and they were the perfect touch in such a pink and dreamy setting.

Bellevue Downtown Park isn’t lined with cherry blossom trees throughout. Instead, there’s a section near the Piloti installation that feels like a mystical, secluded nook. Once you step into it, you’re met with a variety of tree formations and compositions that create endless opportunities for beautiful photographs from nearly any angle.

I brought my 135mm lens to this session, which transformed the cherry blossoms into a spectacular soft bokeh and gave the photographs an especially dreamy quality.

While their daughter wandered off to explore, Heena and Eddie shared a quiet moment together beneath the cherry blossom arches. During family sessions, I always make space for parents to pause and reconnect, because preserving genuine connection is at the heart of creating timeless family photographs.
Toward the end of our shoot, I captured a few fairytale-like portraits of Heena walking beneath a path of cherry blossom trees where she looked absolutely radiant in this soft and dreamy spring setting.

Families searching for an outdoor family photographer near Bellevue are often looking for more than a beautiful location alone. They want a photographer who understands light, knows how to work gently with young children, and creates photographs that feel both beautiful and deeply connected. That thoughtful experience is at the heart of every session I offer, and I’m grateful to have earned over 20 five-star reviews from families across Bellevue, Redmond, and the greater Eastside.
